Zero Waster

22/3/2018 0 Comments

Hello You - Welcome to the blog

The internet is full of terrible things - I mean specifically about the environment, plastics, and climate change. It's overwhelming.

This is my blog about trying (failing, then trying again) to go zero(ish) waste by making small changes. Don't be overwhelmed - small changes do add up!
In the spirit of organisation I've moved all my posts to this site - Just in case you wanted to read more about the journey we've taken to get where we are today.

Thanks for reading! - AC

Resistance is futile

(2017)

I'm going Zero waste! - I announce this. In my house. To my partner.

I'll be interested to see how long this lasts - is the reply i get.

This is the kind of negative family attitude you can expect to run up against sometimes, and that's fine.
One thing I've learnt about people (from living among them and from being one) is that they take the path of least resistance. I know I do all the time, I'm very lazy.

Seems like the trick is to make it as easy as possible to reuse things. I've folded up reusable plastic shopping bags and hidden them in every 'going out' bag in the house. Handbags, tote-bags, larger freezer bags and even my partners climbing backpack now contains one of these. There will be no excuse to buy a plastic bag ever again. Not on my watch.

Hello you - welcome to our blog

Mid-2017 I saw a picture of a dolphin tangled up in a plastic bag and I decided that reckless endangerment of sea mammals was no longer for me.
So, I bought a packet of re-usable metal drinking straws and embarked on a journey to go non-consumer, reduced plastic, zero(ish) waste.
I've been trying out the things I find on lifestyle blogs, on zero waste groups and in Guardian articles - with varying degrees of success.
